Go Ahead, Enjoy Your Pasta
By now, most of us have heard about the many benefits of the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet—an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats, and low in sodium and red meat—but what about pasta? If you’re trying to lose weight or eat "healthy," is pasta so bad?
A new study, involving 23,000 participants and published in the journal Nutrition and Diabetes, showed that, "enjoying pasta according to individuals' needs contributes to a healthy body mass index [BMI], lower waist circumference, and better waist-hip ratio."
As with everything, moderation is key. Pasta is high in carbohydrates and a one-cup serving has about 220 calories. But if further research confirms the results of this recent study, passing on the spaghetti may soon be a healthy lifestyle decision of the past.
