I have a pain in my left breast; it feels like a bruise or muscle sprain. Is this normal?
Breast pain is a common complaint, and it can stem from a number of sources. Often breasts can become painful just before the start of your period, with the pain abating afterwards. This is related to hormonal fluctuations, and is normal. Pain can also be the result of a cyst that’s become large enough to press on a nerve; or a fibroademona, a benign growth that’s common in women with fibrocystic change, a sometimes painful (though not dangerous) breast condition experienced by many women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
Luckily, breast pain is seldom a breast cancer symptom. Unless it becomes suddenly worse; or is accompanied by signs of infection (itching, swelling, heat, redness, increased pain), it should be safe to wait and see if it disappears on its own. If you still have this pain a month from now, it would be best to see a doctor to find out the cause.
