of a pea or popcorn kernel. I then started experiencing the feeling of liquid in both of my ears after cleaning them out wit a q-tip and both began to ache. I assumed they were both bleeding but tried to sleep it off and clean them out again this morning, but no dried blood was in either of them this time. I am still experiencing a headache and the earache in both ears but the feeling of liquid in my ear is gone. Can my migraines be causing my ear to bleed or could it be something more serious like ear cancer or ruptured ear drums?

Answer

Hi Poncho,

As much as I'd love to be able to tell you whether or not you have a more serious problem, the only person who can safely do that is a doctor who can review your current symptoms with you, go over your family's medical history, and conduct a complete examination. Nobody should diagnose via the Internet, it is not safe.

Now, having said that, ear discomfort/pain may be a symptom of a Migraine attack, because when we have a Migraine attack, the trigeminal nerve becomes inflamed. The branches of the trigeminal nerve run over and below the eyes, along the sinus cavities and around the lower jaw line. This can make your ears and even teeth hurt. Leaking fluid from the ears, is not part of a Migraine attack. A call to your doctor may be in order to make sure you don't have some kind of inner ear issue.

Good luck and let us know how you make out,

Nancy
