I get heat induced migraines. Can’t increase metabolism without migraine. Need exercise! HELP!
I experience seratonin syndrome if I take serotonin targeted maintenance meds and take my Max Alt. With every year that passes, I am gaining 10-15 lbs, which ups my blood pressure. I just want to be able to exercise without a headache!! Even if I am in an air conditioned place, if my body gets heated up, here’s the migraine. I am partially convinced that it is a problem with my endocrine system – a thermostat malfunction if you will – but of course, I haven’t found a dr. that doesn’t just take my blood for thyroid function and of course, if it is in the “normal” range, it is assumed that everything is ok. Whatever it is, I would like to find SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, that is willing to take whatever test to get to the source so I can do something!!! PLEASE HELP! hothead.
It’s time for a new doctor. Your problem with heat may or may not be endocrine, but you’ll never know until appropriate testing is done. On thyroid testing – you need more than just a TSH level. Your Free T3 and Free T4 also need to be tested. If you have a “normal” TSH, but your Free T3 and T4 are low, you need treatment. It can be difficult to find someone to treat both endocrine disorders and Migraine. You may need to see an endocrinologist to test for possible endocrine disorders.
That said, heat and exercise are fairly common Migraine triggers. A good Migraine specialist could work with you on this issue. Sometimes, medications can be taken a few times a week before exercise to prevent exertionally triggered Migraines and let you get back to exercising. There’s a link below to our directory of patient recommended specialists.
Bottom line – find yourself a good Migraine specialist and discuss these issues. He or she can either help you with the endocrine testing as well or recommend an endocrinologist and work with them as a team to get these issues addressed and better manage your health.
