Help For Boyfriend With "Madonna/whore" Complex?

How can I seek help for my relationship? My boyfriend has a "complex" about women being either saintly or being whores from expressing their sexuality that is threatening my sexual and mental health at this point. How can I talk to him about this?

Answer

You need to ask your family for support, get out of the relationship, and seek therapy to resolve your own issues.   If this is an abusive relationship - even verbally - it can escalate.  Men who have these kinds of black and white attitudes about women and sex are often very judgmental and shaming to their partners. As women we know that sexuality is not so clear-cut, and we certainly  know that expressing our sexuality or our desire for sex does not make us slutty. We have the same desires as men and have the same right to express them.

The key here is to take care of yourself. If you feel the relationship is damaging your health in any way, it's best to distance yourself from it.
