Can Herpes Cause A Abnormal Pap Smear

My husband has herpes.

Hi pigs77,

Thanks for asking a question. Although I'm not a doctor, and so cannot offer medical advice, I do have herpes and would be happy to help.

I'm not positive, and it would be nice to have a doctor's response, but from what I've researched online it looks possible to have an abnormal pap smear from the herpes virus. If you've had an abnormal pap smear, you should discuss it with your doctor and tell him/her about your husband's condition. I've had many pap smears since I was diagnosed with herpes, and I've never heard anything back from my doctor (due to the "no news = good news" policy). But that doesn't mean they weren't abnormal...

If you have concerns, you should talk more with your doctor. Also check out some information about herpes on our Herpes Basics page. You might find some useful information on the Preventing Herpes page and the Causes and Risks page.

Good luck!
