Can Herpes Cause Painful Urination?

I was just diagnosed with type 2 herpes two days ago. I am going through my first outbreak!!! It is so extremely painful to the point I can barely sit or stand. When I pee it stings so bad to the point I cry every time I urinate. There has to be a easier way to urinate, right? if so please tell me!!!!

Answer

Hi Lovingmother,

You asked this question a long time ago, and you received excellent answers from other community members. I was wondering if you found techniques that worked for you? I would love to hear them.

Burning during urination is a common symptom of herpes infection when the sores are in the genital area, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Antiviral medications can help reduce the length and severity of your outbreak. To reduce the pain quickly, you can also try taking over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or applying cool compresses to the area.

Hope you are well!
