Hi, I'm an 18-year-old girl and I get occassional chest pains. They can be quick and sharp and then go away, but tonight I got pains SO severe and sharp non-stop for 50 minutes with shortness of breath and a pain in my stomach. Should I worry? I've gotten the occasional chest pains when I breathe really deeply sometimes, and other times it just comes like shooting pains really quick, but tonight wasn't the first time for severe chest pain. I asked my doctor but he really just brushed it off like it was nothing. What would you recommend?

Answer

Hi Weatherbug,

Any time you have chest pain like this you should see a doctor and even go to the ER if necessary to be sure it's not an issue with your heart. I'm sorry the doctor you have spoken to has brushed off your symptoms. It might be time to see someone else about it or, as I mentioned, go to the ER for heart tests while you're having this severe pain.
