Is A High Diastolic Pressure Dangerous With Normal Systolic?

I take Lisinopril/HCTZ for borderline high blood pressure. My blood pressure now is usually 117/ 85 or 90. Why is my diastolic still high & should I be worried?

Answer

Hi DP,

I have a different opinion than Dr. Neil and want to share it with you. You can then decide what's best for you. Ideally, blood pressure should be less than 120/80 to prevent damage to your arteries and organs. Since your diastolic blood pressure continues to be elevated (above 80), I recommend continuing to find ways to lower this number to the healthy range through healthy food choices that promote lower blood pressure and increased physical activity.

All the best,
