Home of the Fittest?
Washington: first in war, first in peace, first in fitness. That last fact is according to a new survey from the American College of Sports Medicine.
The report looks at factors such as health, diet, and mortality rate. It also considers amenities such as walking trails, gyms and farmer’s markets for fresh produce. The survey finds Washingtonians are less likely to smoke and more likely to have an active lifestyle. There are also plenty of parks and open spaces available.
Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver, Portland (Oregon), and San Francisco completed the top-5 on the list. Indianapolis was last, because of sedentary lifestyles and a propensity to smoke.
This is the third straight year D.C. has led the fitness list.
