My Husband Wants To Get A Hot Tub To Help Releave Joint And Bone Pain For Both Of Us.

I had both chemo and radiaton and in the back of my mind I think I remember that I shouldn't use a hot tub. Is this correct information or am I just imagining it?

Answer

I have a HUGE 80 gallon jacuzzi tub that I just love to get in cause I have fibromyalgia and have horrible pain from my back to my feet....and while the tub feels so great, it does have the potential drawback for lymphedema. I have noticed mine flare up a lot recently - but then again I just finished radiation in August - and yes, hot baths or hot tubs are a big no-no after radiation. I've heard conflicting info on how long you should wait - some say not while you're going through therapy, others say for 3 months following, and finally I've heard that radiation can carry risks for up to 18 months.

So I'd suggest asking your doctor and take it slowly. Once a week for 10 minutes can't be that bad or just try not emerging your whole body.

good luck!
