Inadvance Stage Of Congestive Heart Fail Sudden Onset Of Vomiting &Trouble Breathing

My mother is in advance stage of congestive heart failure, and she had a sudden onset of trouble breathing and vomitting, that lasted about 20 min. Could this be heart related

She is 91.

Answer

Congestive heart failure is when the heart is malfunctioning and unable to meet the metabolic and oxygen demands of the rest of the body. This dysfunction often causes shortness of breath as the heart can not pump well enough to supply the rest of the body's needs. It also can ultimately lead to "water on the lungs", medically called pulmonary edema, and water retention in other parts of the body, even the intestines, which might lead to nausea or vomiting. These issues should be reviewed with a cardiologist.
