Jaw "Pop" Followed By Pain

About a month ago, I yawned and the right side of my jaw popped. Since that day, my jaw has been sore on the right side. Is this pain likely to go away on its own or should I seek the advice of a doctor?

Answer

Though I'm not a doctor, it sounds as though the disc in your jaw joint may have popped out of place.   Hopefully it will go back into place on its own, but if you continue to have pain or soreness, you'll need to see your dentist and/or doctor.  You could try eating only soft foods for a week or so and avoiding opening your mouth too widely.   Since this has happened to once, experts say it's more likely to happen again. Thus it would be a good idea to avoid biting into very hard foods or those that require you to open your mouth excessively in order to bite into them.
