My Left Breast Has Been Hurting For About A Month. My Veins Are Very Pronounced And It Feels Like Someone Has My Breast In A Vice Grip. It Hurts At Just About Any Slight Touch.

I know that I am not pregnant. My doctor can't get me in for another few weeks, but I am worried. My breasts have never hurt before. What is going on?

Answer

Since this is just one breast, it's more concerning than if it were both - in which case I'd say it's probably hormonal. Please read our post on breast pain, and see if your symptoms match anything described there. Luckily, breast pain is - well, a pain - but usually nothing serious. However, a rare type of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, can start with pain. Please read our post on IBC symptoms; and if you think you might be experiencing early signs, best to see a doctor sooner rather than later, just to rule it out. Hope this resolves on its own soon - PJH
