Left Nipple Is Painful When Touched. I Am A 66 Year Old Post-menopausal Woman Not Taking Hrt

About a week ago I felt ,nipple pain,. My left nipple suddenly became painful when touched. This has continued daily for over a week. Nothing has changed in my life, diet and no bumps or accidents. No discharge, no visible redness. Possibly a little swelling and heat. I nursed 3 children. I took ,HRT, for about 10 years but have not taken anything since the media told us it was risky (5-7 years?). I occassionally use estrogen vaginal cream for dryness -- about once every 2 months.

Answer

Hi - Please read our post on nipple issues. Usually pain like this is something hormonal; even though you're past menopause, you may still encounter some latent hormonal issues. If the pain continues for another week or so, you might want to check with your doctor to find out what might be causing it. While this doesn't sound like a typical breast cancer symptom, breast changes should always be checked by a doctor if they persist longer than a couple of weeks. Good luck - PJH
