Little Toe On Left Foot Swollen On The Outer Side And Red In The Middle And Feels Like There Is Water In It Like A Blister

My little toe on the left foot is swollen on the outer side and red in the middle. It feels like there is water in it, like a blister. What could be going on?

Answer

Several things can cause this, but perhaps the first thing to look at is poor footware. Tight shoes can play havoc with the feet, particularly the big and little toes. If your toes are cramped, you might try getting wider shoes and see if this helps. (I actually slit my tennis shoes on the side.)

Other things, such as some sort of trauma you didn't intially notice, lymphadema, cellulitis, insufficient blood flows to the toes, an infection, or a splinter you didn't notice, could all cause swollen toes, but you'll have to go to a doctor to get a diagnosis. Good luck!
