How Long Should I Continue To Take Wellbutrin After I Start Feeling Better?

I’m starting to feel better after having taken Wellbutrin for about 2 and a half months. I remember the doctor saying something about how you have to stay on it for a while in order to avoid falling back into depression, but I don’t want to take it longer than I really need to. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Answer

Hi, there. I have been on Wellbutrin for so many years, I can’t remember when I started it. That doesn’t mean you will have to be on it forever. Is this your first depressive episode? If so, you may need to be on it for 6 - 12 months and then try going without it - all under the doctor’s approval, of course. The reason you’re feeling better is because of the medication, so you don’t want to rush yourself off of it just yet. It really is a pretty good drug, in my opinion, normally having very few side effects. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’m glad it’s helping you.
