How Long Does It Take Celexa To Leave The System After It Is D/c?

PATIENT HAS BEEN TAKING CELEXA FOR 6 MONTHS WITH ONSET OF GI DISTRESS IMMEDIATELY AND THROUGHOUT THE COURSE. HE IS NOW WEANING HIMSELF OFF MED AND WONDERS HOW LONG THE GI UPSET WILL LAST.

Answer

Hi JWard-

Thank you for your question. The half-life of Celexa is about 35 hours, meaning that it takes 35 hours for 50% of the drug in your body to be eliminated. Then in the next 35 hours, half of the remaning drug will be eliminated, and so on until there's nothing left. That being said, it will probably take about 10-14 days for all of the medication to be fully cleared from the body. However, if the patient is elderly or has kidney or liver impairment, the clearance time can be even longer. I hope this helps.

Best of luck,

Casey
