Can A Lump Found Above The Breast But Below The Neck Be Associated With Breast Cancer?

I located a somewhat painful lump on my left clavicle yesterday. It is a clearly defined lump and is painful when touched and it moves when I touch it. Can this be associated with breast cancer?

Answer

Yes, a lump above the breast may be associated with breast cancer; your breast tissue extends farther than you may think. But this moveable, painful lump sounds very much like a fibroadenoma or a cyst, as in general cancerous lumps are fixed in place, and not painful. Please read our post on fibrocystic change for more about what this might be. And if it lasts longer than one menstrual cycle, best to see a doctor to find out what it is, OK? Good luck - PJH
