I’m a 13 year old girl and I have a lup or tumor in my right nipple. it feels harder in one area than it does on my other nipple. Also in that area it is a redish color. It’s not on my nipple, it’s like inside my nipple or something. It showed up yesterday or the day before that, but it seems like it’s only getting worse. It doesn’t hurt that bad, only when I touch it. I’m not sure if breast cancer runs in my family. My mom and sister don’t have it. Help?
Hi Alysha - Please don’t worry about breast cancer at your age; the chance is less than 1 in a million you’d have breast cancer. Feeling lumps in your breast as you go through puberty is inevitable; it’s part of growing. Please read our Teen Guide to Breast Development for more information about what you might expect, as the months go by.
That said - if this lump seems to be getting bigger quickly; and if your breast seems infected (red, hot, swollen, painful), then don’t ignore it; you should tell someone. You may have an infection that needs some treatment with antibiotics. OK? PJH
