Can metronidazole or clindamycin treat a urinary tract infection?

Answer

A. Robins,

I know it has been a while since you posted, but I was wondering how you are doing. Did you ever get the opportunity to see a doctor? I am not a doctor and can't diagnose you, but UTI's are usually treated with the following:

  • Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (Bactrim, Septra, others)
  • Amoxicillin (Amoxil, Augmentin, others)
  • Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrodantin, others)
  • Ampicillin
  • Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
  • Levofloxacin (Levaquin)

I wouldn't suggest self-medicating with other antibiotics. I think you should see a doctor for treatment. Please consider returning to the community to let us know how things are going. I'm sure your experience could be a great help to others!

Best of luck,

James
