Continuing with my favorite MS-related apps in this 4-part series, here are seven applications that focus on educational materials appropriate for MS patients and the healthcare professionals who care for them, entertainment venues that provide MS-specific radio stations and book clubs, and games that are good for relaxation and cognition.
Available for iPhone/iPad, requires iOS 5.0 or later; Android, requires 1.6 and up
A very cool little app, the 3D Brain app consists of 29 interactive structures that can be rotated in 3D space. Use your touch screen to rotate and zoom around the interactive brain structures. Each detailed structure comes with information on associated functions, disorders, brain damage, case studies, and links to contemporary modern research. An $0.99 upgrade to the free app offers higher resolution images, improved interface, and updated content.
Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis & Management
Available for iPhone/iPad, requires iOS 7.0 or later; Android, requires 4.0 and up
The Multiple Sclerosis-Clinical Care App is developed in collaboration with the NMSS and intended for healthcare professionals who are involved in the management of MS patients. Although not intended for MS patients, those of us with MS who enjoy reading up on the current information on the diagnosis, classification, and management of MS may appreciate free access to this information. The app provides pdf access to several large brochures created by the NMSS that may be downloaded and saved to your favorite eReader app (such as iBooks). Although with the recent revamp of the NMSS’s website, some of the outbound links provided in this app are broken.
