WinkI drank a whole lot of protein shakes when I had my weigh-loss surgery. Back in 2003, there were few flavors available -- or maybe because everything was so new to me that I only thought there were a few flavors available. Anyway, to make things more interesting, I got very creative with developing my own recipes for these shakes. And as time went on, more flavors became available and my shakes got more creative (and tastier)!
Here are two of my favorite fruity recipes, Orange Creamsicle and Pina Colada, both of which provide a refreshing break from vanilla and chocolate protein shakes. Gee, who'd ever thought I'd get tired of a chocolate shake?!?!
Orange Creamsicle Protein Shakngredients
1 scoop Syntrax Matrix 5.0 Orange Cream
1-2 c ice cubes
4 oz plain almond milk
4 oz water
sugar-free vanilla syrup (I like DaVinci or Torani)
1 TBS orange juice frozen concentrate
1 scoop Syntrax Nectar Carribean Cooler whey protein powder
1-2 c ice cubes
oz coconut milk (not the kind in the can)
squirts sugar-free coconut syrup (I like DaVinci or Torani)
- 1 pineapple chunk and 1 fresh cherry (pitted) for garnish
I like Syntrax Nectar because it has no fat and no carbs. Plus, its lactose- and gluten-free. Syntrax Matrix is very low in carbs and fat, so another good choice. Remember, the best times for consuming protein are immediately upon rising in the morning, after intense physical activity, such as weight training, and prior to sleep.
- The directions are the same for either the Orange Creamsicle Protein Shake or the Pina Colada Protein Shake.
- Place all ingredients in a blender.
- Blend at highest power until ice cubes are crushed and a shake consistency is acheived.
- For the Pina Colada, slide the pineapple chunk and cherry onto a tooth pick. Lay this across the rim of a glass, fill with protein shake. Enjoy!
