New health benefits linked to hempseed oil

Hempseed oil—a derivative of marijuana—may help promote good health and fight against various diseases, according to new research.

Scientists analyzed the properties of hempseed oil and found certain components—called sterols, aliphatic alcohols and linolenic acids—to be beneficial. Sterols have been found to help lower cholesterol and lower risk of heart attack, while aliphatic alcohols and linolenic acids have been found to protect against cancer and coronary heart disease. Researchers said that other components of hempseed oil have been found to protect against Alzheimer’s disease and help treat skin diseases.

While researchers have found many potentially beneficial qualities of hempseed oil, they would have to study its effects on humans before confirming the effectiveness of hempseed oil on good health.
