Online Screening Tests for ADHD

by Eileen Bailey Health Writer

If you are wondering if you, or your child have ADHD, there are a number of online screening tests available. It is important to note, however, that these screening tests should not be used for diagnostic purposes. They are helpful in deciding if you should see your doctor. In addition, they may provide a starting point for beginning a conversation with your medical provider about symptoms that you are experiencing or have experienced in the past.

  1. The Amen Clinic ADD Test

This site provides a self-screening test for both adults and children. It has approximately 75 questions you rate between 0 and 5, with 0 being never and 5 being very frequently. After completing the questionnaire, your results will be displayed on the screen. You can print out the pages of the questionnaire to discuss with your doctor. You also can take an additional test, The Amen Brain System Test, which will help determine the subtype of ADHD.

  1. Adult ADHD Self Report Scale

This test is from the New York University Department of Psychiatry. It is a screening test for medical professional screening for Adult ADD. This is a PDF file and can be printed out and brought with you to the doctor for further discussion.

  1. Jasper/Goldberg Adult ADD Screening

This is a 24-question test, although there is a link to a shorter, 6 question quiz available. It is for adults and will help determine if you need to seek medical help for a diagnosis and possibly treatment for ADD.

  1. Screening Test for Women

This screening test if from Sari Solden and has a checklist with symptoms and characteristics specific for women with ADD.

  1. Brief Rating Scale for Parents
