Painful Swollen Glands Under Jaw

Painful Swollen Glands Under Jaw

Are swollen glands under the jaw line sometimes a TMJ symptom? I have several of the typical TMJ symptoms (clenching and sliding back teeth unconsciously, jaw joints sore to the touch, ringing in my ears, ears that feel sore at the very bottom of the ear canal near throat, etc). Also, the glands under my jawline on both sides seem to swell with accompanying tenderness, typically one side at a time. Is this swelling under my jaw due to TMJ or something else?

Hi AnnaB -

Only a trained medical professional can accurately diagnose the cause of your swollen lymph nodes, so if you haven't seen a doctor about this problem, you should do so. I will tell you (as a lay person) that TMJ has been known to cause swollen glands in the throat, though there are many other conditions that could cause this, including infections in the lymph nodes themselves. If you're still having this problem, you will want to see a doctor to have it evaluated.
