My Recent Mammogram Showed That There Is Moderately Dense Fibroglandular Tissue?

My recent mammogram showed that there is moderately dense fibroglandular tissue in my breast. What does this mean?

Answer

Hi - Many young women have so-called "dense breasts," which is what "moderately dense fibroglandular tissue" refers to. You'd need to ask the radiologist to explain further just how "dense" your breasts are; since breast density has been shown to increase your risk of breast cancer (albeit very slightly), it's something you should be aware of. In the meantime, please read our post on breast density, for an explanation of what this means; and what (if anything) to do about it. Take care- PJH
