Resistant High Blood Pressure With Low Heart Rate

Hello, I am a 62 year old female with resistant high blood pressure. I have been through every category of blood pressure medication over the past eight years when my high blood pressure started. Ii counted 47 different medications, including brand name and various generics in each category. Some manufacturers are better than others. Some countries medications work better than the USA.

I can sometimes get better results by 1/2ing medication, but eventually everything i have tried does not work. Sometimes taking a new medication makes my pressure go up to 208/103 and so forth. It is up to me to figure out what 'back up' medication will bring it down, as most of the time this elevated BP is from 8 pm to 3:30 a.m. I rarely get to a healthy 115/60 or even the old standard of 120/62. I have been on six medications at a time, and my doctors have basically given up. All tests have been supposedly given of unusual causes. I feel that this is not good for my heart to be all over the place with BP, nor is it good to be self medicating.. and it does not allow for much sleep as well. Today my heart rate is 38 while my BP is 160/67, making me feel dizzy and faint. I don't know what to do, where to go, and my life is one long adjustment of medications.

Answer

Hi Need Help Now,

How frustrating! I encourage you to continue working with your doctors to determine a successful treatment plan for you. If you haven't already, consider implementing the DASH Diet. A diet that promotes low blood pressure will also increase the effectiveness of blood pressure medications.

All the best,
