Is It Safe To Take Expired Migraine Medicines If Needed?

i got imitrex dated 2008 expiration. is it still safe to take it if i have a migraine?

Answer

rencel,

Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!

This is a question best answered by your pharmacist. Medications begin to lose their effectiveness after their expiration dates, especially if not stored correctly. Please check with your pharmacist.

In the future, you might want to keep in mind a tip that Dr. Krusz has shared with us. When you have tablets and capsules that you don't take often, if you wrap them tightly in plastic, keeping out the air and moisture, and store them in the freezer, it will suspend the expiration dates.

Welcome again,
