Is It Safe To Take 4000 Units Of Vitamin D3 A Day

We had a speaker in the building here, which is a building for seniors most of them at the age of 75 and over. We were told we should take 4000 units of vitamin D3 a day. My husband and I are taking 1000units of Vitamin D, a day.

Please let me know if the suggestion about Vitamin D3 4000 units a day is correct!

Thank you

Answer

Hi johanna, You should both have your vitamin D levels checked, and if you are in the deficient range then check this amount with your physician.

Was this speaker selling vitamin D? If so, that might explain why he/she has given a blanket statement for how much you should take.

Good luck with your vitamin D levels and the test for this is 25 (OH) D, done with a blood test.
