Can A Sharp Pain In My Back, Beneath My Right Shoulder Blade Be Signs Of Heart Or Stroke Problem?

The shoulder pain will occur when I am simply at my computer. It does not seem to be activity related other than when I strain with a BM it might start. Sometimes there will be short sharp pain in the right side of my chest that will radiate to my back. This happened several months ago with a number of episodes then not again until today. It is a mild pain. It feels like what I think of as a blood vessel strain but I don't know that that actually exists. What could be causing this?

Answer

WF Simms,

Thanks for your question.

First of all this is not a stroke.

Your symptoms of chest discomfort are not typical for heart disease, but without the opportunity of asking more questions, examining you, and seeing an electrocardiogram, no one can say with absolute certainty what the cause is. This is why you should see your doctor for his evaluation. If your heart checks out, this most likely is due to a muscular or ligamentous strain in your chest wall or around your shoulder blade.

I suggest you call for an appointment for your doctor's opinion.

Best wishes.
