Single-vehicle accidents spike at New Year’s

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are notorious for car accidents and last year’s auto insurance claims show that you may be your own worst enemy on the road.  The number of single-vehicle accident claims on New Year’s Day in 2012 jumped 30 percent from a normal day and were the single largest factor in a 25 percent overall jump in auto accident insurance claims that day.  Within that 30 percent jump was also a 76 percent increase in single-vehicle rollovers and a 59 percent increase in single vehicles running off the road and striking an object.

If you plan to be out and driving on New Year’s, Progressive Auto Insurance recommends that you find a designated driver or splurge on a cab at the end of the night.
