Sister In Her Late 30s Developed Schizophrenia All Of The Sudden. Why?

my sisters dad had sz and she started to display symptoms of this recently but she was 38 or 39 at the time. any body knows why she would get it in that age group? any info on sz coming out in that age would be great. oh and she was perfectly normal till this.

Answer

Hello biancehotbabe,

There's a type of schizophrenia called Late-Onset Schizophrenia that does occur later in life, and this is possibly what happened to your sister. I have a friend who also developed SZ in her 30s. I hear the outcome for someone who develops SZ later in life is sometimes better.

Regards,

Christina
