Skin Flaking Off Nipple

Skin Flaking Off Nipple

I started noticing the skin on my nipple flaking off around Oct. 2008. I didn't think much of it at the time since I was training for a marathon and thought it was due to friction. Well it's still going on. It's never gotten any worse but it just won't completely go away. I do still train for 1/2 and full marathons year round but have tried to use cream to protect the area. I tried searching the internet and all I can come up with is Paget's. I don't notice any other sypmtoms and my PCP thinks I'm nuts and just tells me to put lotion on it. The lotion does work. Every once in a while I do notice the same thing on my right nipple but it's never as consistant as the left. Should I be worried? My doctor doesn't think so but I just can't figure out why it won't go away and stay away. I did have a mammogram in May and it was normal. Can you have Paget's for this long (going on 20 months) and not develop other symptoms yet? The flaking is very mild and almost looks like a speck of lint if that makes any sense.

Hi - Have you seen a dermatologist? Cancer usually progresses noticeably, once you see a symptom; I don't believe you could have it for 20 months, coming and going, in one or both breasts. If a dermatologist can't help, you might consider seeing a breast specialist. As you say, it would be nice to figure out what this is! Best of luck with your running - PJH
