Can Small Seizures Cause Low Blood Pressure And Or Low Heart Rate?

can small seizures result in low blood pressure and or low heart rate ?

Answer

drummer5272,

Thanks for your question.

There are a few different types of seizures. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "small" seizures, but I assume you are not having grand mal (or generalized) seizure activity. In the case of generalized seizures where there is unconsciousness and body movement all over, the blood pressure and heart rate usually rise dramatically at the time of the seizure, and then return to normal. In other less generalized seizures, there may be no change in the vital signs.

I note that under category, you wrote: brain tumor and seizures. Some brain tumors can cause a drop in heart rate, and this is something that you should discuss with your treating physicians. Another possibility is medications that are being used in your treatment, which might be affecting your pressure.

Best wishes and feel better.
