I Have Staph Infection And Currently Taking Bactrim For It. Is It Safe To Have Sex After Being On The Antibiotics For A Week?

I have a staph infection and am currently taking bactrim for it. Is it safe to have sex after being on the antibiotics for a week? The wound is under my arm and has opened to drain. I have been taking the antibiotic for a couple of days now. If the wound is not draining anymore in the next few days and I continue taking the antibiotics, will it be safe to have sex?

Answer

Denise,

I know it has been a while since you posted, but I was wondering how you are doing. Did you ever get the opportunity to ask a doctor about this? I am not a doctor and can't diagnose you, but I think as long as you limit contact with the infected area, your partner should be fine. The other poster is right, too; make sure you use protection if you are on birth control, as antibiotics can affect them.

Best of luck,

James
