If You Stop Taking A Diuretic Medication Such S Maxzide/hctz Should You Expect To Gain Weight Because Of Water Retention?

I gained 10 lbs in two weeks after stopping this medication with no change in diet or exercis patterns. I am a 59 year old male. Is this normal?

Answer

Hi LF Gibson,

No, I recommend contacting your physician to reassess your treatment plan. You may need to continue a low dose of the diuretic or the physician may want to "wait and see" over another couple weeks. Definitely discuss with your physician.
