Is There A Substitute For Arimidex? Is There Something Less Harsh?

Substitute for arimidex.

Answer

Isabell, there are three basic aromatase inhibitor drugs: Arimidex, Femara, and Aromasin. They all work SLIGHTLY differently, but I don't know if any one is less harsh than the others, as far as side effects are concerned. If your quality of life is really suffering with Arimidex, you might want to discuss with your oncologist going on tamoxifen. While it's not as effective at preventing recurrence as Arimidex, and it does come with its own side effects, many women seem to tolerate tamoxifen a lot better than Arimidex. And if you simply can't take Arimidex - tamoxifen would probably be better than nothing. Good luck to you - PJH
