Are There Supplements I Can Take Before/after Spinal Fusion To Help Fusion Take Other Than Calcium, Mangnesium?

I am asking because last fusion did not take. This time it will be done with my bone rather than artificial bone. Also, are there foods I should include in my diet prior to surgery that will help the bone form?I am hoping to build myself up prior to and after surgery so I won't feel as bad as last time. Thanks for any answers!

Answer

I don't know but I recently heard a program on 'health myths' and one of them was that calcium supplements help build strong bones. According to this program around 10 studies have shown that not only do calcium supplements not build strong bones but taking calcium might even increase your risk of heart attack. (This may be due to the body dumping calcium into arterial rules when the bloodstream is flooded with it...Dietary calcium is better than supplementing with calcium.)

In any case you might want to look elsewhere to assist with the spinal fusion. Good luck with it.
