Can Surgery Effect Cholesterol Count?
My recent cholesterol test came back 'higher than normal'. I admit I have been eating fattier foods lately (ie for 2-3 months) but I also had surgery a month ago. Can surgery, medications for high blood pressure and a change in my HRT affect my cholesterol level?
Answer
Hi Aussiegal,
Yes, cholesterol levels will increase as part of the healing process following surgery. I recommend working with your physician to monitor your levels to ensure they return to normal . . . and cut back on some of the less healthy food choices:)
If you don't see improvements then I would work with your physician to investigate the cause of your elevated levels further.
All the best,
