How To Taper Off Of Keppra?

My father is on Levipil 1000mg. he is very very sleepy to the extent that he sleeps for 23 hrs..hardly gets up.Is it because of high dosage of levipil. If at all we have to reduce the does. How one should reduce the dose???

Answer

I'm sorry about your father's condition. Increased drowsiness or sleep is a common side effect of Keppra. Keppra, however, needs to be withdrawn very slowly and only under a doctor's supervision as withdrawing it too quickly can cause seizures.

Be sure to talk about this with his physician. Good luck with your father.
