Tattoo Ink Travels Inside the Body
Microscopic particles in tattoo ink can travel in the body and reach the lymph nodes, according to a researchers in France and Germany whose study was published in Scientific Reports. They found that pigments and toxic element impurities in tattoo ink spread in nanoparticle form throughout body tissue.
This study provides evidence that toxic elements in tattoo ink may have adverse effects. The researchers suggest that the chemical composition of tattoo ink could be a key factor in tattoo safety – in addition to needle sterility.
In fact, little is known about the safety of impurities in tattoo ink, most of which contains organic compounds, as well as preservatives and contaminants such as nickel, chromium, manganese, or cobalt.
