How Do You Tell The Difference Between Gas And A Heart Attack?

I was out of town and had severe pain for over 24 hrs (it woke me up) my friend I was with told me it was probably nothing, I called my husband and he told me to wait and see, callled my dad and he thought it was gas, I thought well Ill just wait and it did disappear but not after being pretty consistant for 24 hrs. I am 50 yrs old and have never had pain like that before..I didnt want to call an ambulance in a strange city, however, now that I am home, I am wondering didi I do the right thing?

Answer

Hi didi,

Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference between gas pain and a heart attack. Gas pains can be severe and are usually caused by excess air in the stomach or esophagus, as well as in the large intestine. Here are links to both Heart Attack Symptoms and Gas Symptoms. I suggest that you consult with your physician to rule out any major issues.
