The Three Middle Fingers On My Right Hand Are Locked Closed In The Morning, Why? Painfull Too.

There is also a lot of pain in my hands. My nails are breaking down to nothing and splitting as well. I have psoriasis and am wondering about arthritic psoriasis. Or carpel tunnel. The bones in my finger joints and hands are sore!

Answer

Psoriatic Arthritis is a very strong possiblity. Skin and nail changes of psoriasis must be present to make the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. Nail changes include discoloration, fragmentation, pitting, and lifting up. Usually in psoriatic arthritis the fingers and finger joints will swell like sausages. The swelling and stiffness of the hands can be causing a "locked" like sensation. Morning stiffness is an important clue for psoriatic arthritis.

Separate from psoriatic arthritis is tenosynovitis which is very common (sometimes referred to as trigger finger). This can also cause fingers to lock because the tendon cannot slide through the tunnel of the tendon.

An orthopedic surgeon or rheumatologist will be able to give you the correct diagnosis with an examination and x-rays of your hands.
