I Would Like To Understand Why Rivotril Is Prescribed To A Person With Bipolar When It Is Indicated For Epilepsy?

Answer

Many medications for epilepsy, including Rivotril, have turned out to be very useful in treating bipolar disorder. The antiseizure medications Depakote, Tegretol, Topamax, Trileptal, Lamictal and others have all been found to be effective mood stabilizers as well. While their primary use is to help control mania or hypomania, some have been found to help depression, too.

Rivotril has been shown to decrease the frequency of cycles and reduce the number of depressive episodes. It is often prescribed as an add-on to another mood stabilizer like one of those mentioned above or lithium.
