Can Upper Back And Shoulder Blade Pain Be Caused By Asthma?

I have had severe pain in my left shoulder blade, enough to keep me from sleeping well. I have noticed a tingling above the shoulder blade, and when it is really bad I have numbness down my right arm. I also now have upper back pain. I describe it as "feeling my lungs in my back" when I breathe. It is a constant dull pain. What could it be?

Answer

Hi there... It is highly unusual for pain to be associated with asthma, so I find it unlikely that your pain has anything to do with asthma. It is more likely something like pleurisy or even an issue connnected with your heart. It's impossible to say without an examination and medical history. Diagnosis over the Internet is just not possible.

Please call your doctor right away to be evaluated for this pain!

Take care,

Kathi
