Can Voltaren Gel Be Used For Spinal Pain? I Have Severe Cervical Stenosis

My doctor gave me a sample of Voltaren gel to use for neck pain. I have severe cervical stenosis at C3-4, 4-5 and 5-6. I have alot of chronic pain in T1 - T2 area. Reading articles, so far, doesn't look like it is commonly used for this area. I feel a little nauseous after using it, also. I am 59 years old. Advice?

Answer

Voltaren Gel has received FDA approval for treating osteoarthritis pain in the extremeties, but has not yet been tested for treating other parts of the body. However, it's not unusual for a doctor to prescribe a medication "off label" meaning for a condition other than one that is FDA approved.

If you continue to feel nauseous after using it, check with your doctor. Like most NSAIDs, Voltaren Gel does carry a warning of possible serious gastrointestinal side effects.
