Can Vyvanse Be Mixed In Orange Juice?

Can Vyvanse Be Mixed In Orange Juice?

11 yr boy refuses to take pill.

We do this for my son who takes Prozac...we crush it up and put it into his drink but I am unsure about Vyvanse.

In researching your question it seems that other parents have done this. There seems to be a question about whether or not this medication will be fully effective if you take it with a citrus drink. But an article I found says this:

"It might be assumed that any acid food, like orange juice, would reduce amphetamine levels by both of these mechanisms. But that turns out not to be true. For example, orange juice is a highly acidic food due to its high citric acid content, but after being metabolized it causes the (body and) urine to become more alkaline. So the effects of orange juice on amphetamine blood levels are mixed, and I don't know what effect predominates."

So I am going to suggest that you ask your son's doctor about this to make sure this would be an acceptable method.

Also here is a long forum thread where other parents discuss methods of helping the child who doesn't like to take pills.

Likewise here is another forum where this topic is also discussed. One idea discussed is using the Daytrana patch.

Do discuss this issue with your son's doctor. He or she will be the best person to let you know of ways to help with this.

Thank you for your question!
