What Could Cause An Itchy, Sore Rash On My Eyelid?
About five weeks ago, I developed a rash on the corner of my left eyelid, under my brow. The rash is itchy, red and flaky. It sometimes burns. There is a small bump under the rash which hasn't gotten any bigger but hasn't gone away. I don't have any other symptoms but the rash isn't getting any better. I have made any changes in my soaps, detergent, shampoo, etc. What could be causing this?
I am not a medical professional and would not be able to diagnose the rash. However, one possibility is blepharitis. This is an inflammation of the eyelid and can cause a burning sensation in the eye, gritty feeling in the eye, crusting, flaking, redness and inflammation of the eyelid. Your eyelids might stick together when you first wake up. You might feel sensitive to bright lights.
There are some home treatments for blepharitis. Wash your eyelid several times a day with a clean, warm washcloth. Don't scrub, just gently wipe to help loosen any crusting and relieve some of the itching. You can add a couple drops of baby shampoo (make sure it is no-tears) to the washcloth.
This is not a serious illness but once you get it, you are more susceptible to getting it again in the future. Following the cleaning process on a regular basis might help prevent it from returning.
If you do not see any improvement within a few days, you should consult your doctor. He or she might prescribe antibiotic drops or cream to help clear up the inflammation.
