What Could Cause Muscle Spasms Between The Ribs And Feeling Like A Rubber Band Is Around My Chest?
I get strong spasms in between my ribs, and around to the back, and they are very strong. I am not exercising when this happens. Also, my abdomen (diaphragm area) tightens and I feel like a rubber band is squeezing my insides. I have asked two of my doctors and one suggested I warm up before exercising. What else could it be?
Many people struggle with a condition called costrochondritus which causes inflammation of the muscles around the chest wall. Sometimes this extends to the ribs. There are also many factors that could be involved with chest pain. Check out the Health Central's information on chest pain.
Chest Pain (overview)
Your symptom is an interesting one. You might want to check out this long thread started by someone with a similar symptom and see if anything rings a bell. One person suggested hugging yourself tight up toward your chest and inhaling again and seeing if that relieves the spasm. You should also make sure that you are taking plenty of fluids with electrolytes as low electrolyte levels can increase your risk of having muscle cramps.
